Navigating Family Court and Child Protection Systems: An Advocate’s Role

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Each year many families become involved in Family Court and Child Protection Systems. Of those families, several navigate such systems on their own with little to no understanding of the process. Our new program Heart for the People Community Advocates target these families to provide support and advocacy through the court and many service systems they may encounter. Learn about the observations our advocates have documented and how certain aspects of the systems impact families. Additionally, hear stories of how the program has assisted families in building themselves up and increased their investment in the community. Lastly, we will share suggested changes that may prove to have positive impacts on families in the Twin Ports.

1) Learn the significant differences between Family Court and Child Protection Systems in Wisconsin and Minnesota and how that impacts our Twin Ports families.

2) As a service provider, community member, or court official engaging with families involved in these systems, you will have an opportunity to learn the perspectives of the families and how certain approaches may support or hinder the engagement process.
